5 books that will change your life

I don’t know about you, but it can seem as though I am quite caught up on the screen in daily life here lately. Don’t get me wrong, the ability to learn a brand new skill in 5 minutes or less from a YouTube tutorial amazes me…..however, it feels like I’m not investing my time wisely.

So, being a business woman who appreciates a good ROI for her time, I began to research books that have either changed some aspect of my life for the better already OR are on the horizon for taking me to new places. Keep in mind that these suggestions are not you Harry Potter guilty pleasure variety books, BUT they are  very entertaining and easy to read with principles you can use to create a life you truly love.

Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey

Years ago we were BROKE. I mean, like BROKE ya’ll. We didn’t do fun things like budget and we lived outside of our means even though you wouldn’t say we were living well. Broke.

We were in a bookstore one day when my husband picked up a money book (I stayed as far away as possible from books that told me how to deal with money or said ANYTHING about money) and told me we should read it together. He talked me into it by saying that Dave Ramsey used fitness examples….sly Dave Ramsey. We read the book.

Total Money Makeover was our precursor to Financial Peace University and truly did help me start to see money differently. Let’s just say that this book really did change our lives…so much so that we give it as a wedding gift every time we get the chance.

The Total Money Makeover is Dave’s all-time bestselling book. It has helped millions of families get rid of debt and change their lives forever with its simple, practical seven-step plan. How does it work? By getting to the heart of your money problems: You.

Dave condenses his 20 years of financial teaching and counseling into 7 organized, easy-to-follow steps that will lead you out of debt and into a Total Money Makeover. Plus, you’ll read over 50 real-life stories from people just like you who have followed these principles and are now winning with their money. It is a plan designed for everyone, regardless of income or age.

With The Total Money Makeover, you’ll be able to:

  • Design a sure-fire plan for paying off ALL debt.
  • Recognize the 10 most dangerous money myths.
  • Secure a healthy emergency fund and save for retirement.
  • Positively change your life and your family tree!

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

This is my CURRENT read and I cannot say enough positive stuff about it! AMAZING!

I actually came by it by accident.

During Christmas I was online shopping for a good book for my 17 year old daughter and this one popped up. We scooped it up because Christmas was probably just a few days away, and we never gave it another thought. When my daughter and were reading together one night, she told me this book was PROBABLY more my speed AKA: it’s for older people 🙂

And so it sat on the bedside table for 6 months…

I recently picked it up and haven’t wanted to put it down since.

Rachel  has a quick wit, wonderfully down to earth personality, and speaks to every girl and woman I have ever known. It is challenging to say the least….you have to confront some of the lies you have believed for a literal lifetime…but it is worth the read.

The Latte Factor by David Bach

I saw a review on The Latte Factor on Marie TV (thanks Marie Forleo!) and picked it up the next time I was at a bookstore. David Bach does not disappoint. The Latte Factor is a very quick read that will have you thinking differently about how you handle money, define success, and manage yourself as a person.

The Latte Factor is told like a story and keeps your interest the whole time. You follow the main character through life and meet a few people you simply cannot wait to see again.

If you find yourself always seeking “the next thing” to make you happy, or you simply feel as though you cannot get ahead, pick up The Latte Factor today and you will think differently by tomorrow.

The Go Getter by Peter B. Kyne

A super easy and inspiring read by Peter B. Kyne, The Go Getter will have you motivated to do the required work to reach your dreams.

Ever since its first printing in 1921, The Go-Getter has inspired employees and entrepreneurs to take initiative, increase their productivity, and excel against the odds. In this book, Bill Peck, a war veteran, persuades Cappy Ricks, the crusty founder of the Ricks Logging & Lumbering Company, to let him prove himself with a sales assignment that everyone knows can only lead to failure. When Peck beats his quota, he earns the ultimate opportunity and the ultimate test: the quest for the blue vase. Drawing on such classic values as honesty, determination, passion, and responsibility, Peck overcomes nearly insurmountable obstacles to find the vase and launch his career as a successful manager.

In a time when jobs are tight and managers lack the time for mentoring, how can you maintain positive energy, take control of your career, and prepare yourself to ace the tests that come your way? By applying the timeless lessons in this compulsively readable parable, employees at all levels will learn to rekindle the go-getter in themselves.

Start. By Jon Acuf

Start is very next on my personal summer reading list.

Over the last 100 years, the road to success for most everyone has been divided into five stages that mirror the decades of working life:

There are only two paths in life: average and awesome. The average path is easy because all you have to do is nothing. The awesome path is more challenging because things like fear only bother you when you do work that matters. The good news is Start gives readers practical, honest and actionable insights to be more awesome, more often.

It’s time to punch fear in the face, escape average, and do work that matters.

It’s time to Start.

My challenge to you is that you START. Pick a book on this list, get it in your hands, and start reading and taking notes. I promise your life will be more on track to the life you truly love!

BONUS: If you find yourself struggling to reach your goals or unclear about what you want your life to look like, I am opening up a limited number of spots for private coaching. Simply CONTACT ME to set up a free 30 minute consult and see if coaching is a good fit for you.

General Disclaimer: I am not paid by any of these authors, nor do I receive a kickback for suggestions. I truly do enjoy these and hope they will help you as well.
