Making Mondays a Little Less Monday

It seems like every week we are bombarded by funny memes, texts and GIFs about Mondays. There is a general dislike around this day of the week, and for some it can be for good reason.

I was there myself for a LONG time, even when my Mondays started on Tuesday. Monday loomed over the week like an ever present bog I wanted to find a way around; however, with a few quick mindset tips I found myself back on top of my game…and I think you can too.

1.HAVE A PLAN. Whether you are an executive at a large firm, chugging away at a start up, OR working on that side hustle (plus everything in between), having a PLAN will help your Monday go a lot smoother. I suggest a monthly planner where you can reverse engineer those big goals of yours and set yourself up for success DAILY. That way you won’t feel bogged down by trying to plan on the fly Sunday night.

2.YOUR REWARD SYSTEM IS CRUCIAL. Back when I was in the corporate world, I would “reward” myself with a tasty cappuccino or latte at the end of my week. You know what I’m saying…it was the “Congratulations for making it” end of the week ritual. The problem was all I ever did was just try to crawl over the finish line Friday. So, I switched to starting my week with a reward. This very small mindset shift actually enabled me to break through the thought barrier that I had to accomplish anything to deserve that coffee. With that barrier out of the way, I was much more productive AND much more pleasant to be around.

3.TAKE SOME DOWN TIME. In our American culture we tend to thrive on busyness. AKA, we like being busy. There’s some sort or weird badge for running yourself ragged. The big problem with that is we are ragged and by the time Monday rolls around we are too beat to thrive well. So, remind yourself of the IMPORTANT things that must get done (refer to #1 on this list) and let some stuff go! You don’t need to cram your weekends full of to-dos and you CAN tell those kids no to quite a few things. Just ask mine, they survived and are better for it. So, give it a try this week. Knock a couple of tedious to-dos off your list and put some self care in their place. Next Monday will start much differently.

Now, it’s YOUR turn…

Have you found a way to make your Mondays one of your best days?
